Join the Theophilus Center for the Study of Ancient Judaism and Christianity on October 25, 2025 for our Fall Lecture!
Theophilus Center director Andrew H. Waller will present a lecture entitled “Scrolls and Sectarianism at Qumran.” Lots of people have heard of the Dead Sea Scrolls! Fewer people understand the community that produced them or why the Scrolls are so important. Andrew will give an introduction to the Scrolls and the community at Qumran, highlighting what made the Qumranites distinct and how studying them helps us to understand the landscape of early Jewish sectarianism. Additionally, Andrew will discuss some of the ways that Qumran aids us in situating the New Testament within its early Jewish context.
This event will be hosted in Austin’s Hyde Park neighborhood. The address as well as parking information will be sent to attendees following registration.
